Special issue on River Bank Filtration to appear in JIWWA

The Journal of Indian Water Works Association will publish a special issue on RBF that will be printed in October 2012. The special issue, whose preparation was coordinated by the Dresden University of Applied Sciences and includes articles from nearly all WP1 partners, will aim to acquaint the reader with RBF and its potential in India. Several studies on the sustainability and potential of RBF are presented for five locations in the state of Uttarakhand along the Ganga and its tributaries, and the city of Patna. The application of environmental tracers and the purification capacity of an RBF scheme are presented for the city of Delhi. The acceptance of RBF in a rural area is demonstrated by a case study from the state of Karnataka. The rehabilitation of defunct radial collector wells is documented for the city of Gandhinagar in Gujarat. Finally, the final water quality produced by RBF is compared to that of traditional pre-chlorination treatment in a case study from Mathura on the River Yamuna. Experiences gained from the successful completion of some rural water supply schemes in the state of Maharashtra are also included.
